Principal Message

Dear LHS Families,

It's the last week of the first quarter. Grades for this quarter will impact eligibility for the second quarter. An at-risk report email was sent this weekend to alert progress going into the week. The fall season for sports is starting to come to an end. Volleyball, boys and girls soccer have their tournament draws on Sunday, and those brackets will be released. This week is Battle of the Cans and BEAT ALDER week! More details for Battle of the Cans listed below.

Note From Athletics

Reminder: 1st Nine Weeks Grades and Athletic Eligibility

  • According to OHSAA bylaw 4-4-1 (Scholarship), in order to be eligible, a student must pass a minimum of 5 credits.

  • Physical Education does not count toward the 5-credit requirement.

  • Since this is an OHSAA bylaw, schools cannot amend or adjust this standard to assist with eligibility.

Transportation

At London City Schools, student safety is always our top priority—especially when it comes to bus transportation. Riding the bus is a privilege, and by working together, we can make every trip safe and enjoyable for all students.

Key Bus Safety Rules

To help reinforce safe habits, please remind your child about these important expectations:

  1. Stay Seated While the Bus Is Moving
Children should remain in their seats to avoid injury and to keep the driver’s focus on the road.

  2. Use a Quiet Voice
Talking is allowed, but loud noises can distract the driver. Encourage your child to use a calm, quiet voice.

  3. Keep the Bus Clean
Trash and clutter create safety hazards. Students are expected to respect the bus environment and pick up after themselves.

  4. No Eating, Drinking, or Gum
Food and drinks can cause spills, choking risks, or sticky messes. These items are not permitted during bus rides.

  5. Always Listen to the Bus Driver
The driver’s instructions are for the safety of all passengers. Reinforcing respect for this authority helps ensure a smooth ride.

Sincerely,

Stay In the Game

Consistent attendance—free from both excused and unexcused absences, as well as vacations—helps your child form lasting friendships, develop a sense of belonging, and build positive relationships with teachers and staff. These connections create a supportive and engaging learning environment. When students Stay in the Game, they stay connected, supported, and ready to succeed every day.

Safety

Students, your safety is our top priority! If you're walking to school, remember these important tips: always use sidewalks and crosswalks, look both ways before crossing the street, and avoid distractions like phones and headphones. Walk with a friend whenever possible, and make sure to stay alert to your surroundings. Let’s work together to keep your journey to school safe.

Nurse news

Hopefully, your family is beginning to settle into a regular school schedule, and your child(ren) are adjusting well to the routines of a new school year. With homework, practices, games, and other after-school activities, establishing consistent routines is so important for student success. Healthy meals and a good night’s sleep also help set your child on the right path to be their best self and have a successful year.

Reminder: Please send an extra set of clothing with your student to keep in their locker. This helps prevent interruptions to your day if an accident, spill, or other mishap occurs. Having clothing on hand also minimizes the time your student is out of the classroom.

🏈 Football: Dominant Performances Across the Board
The Varsity Football team had a statement win Friday night, defeating Bellefontaine 48–0 as the Red Raiders improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season.  Kyler Russell opened the scoring with a punt return touchdown, followed by rushing touchdowns from Bryston Toronto, Blake Reay, and another from Russell before halftime. In the second half, Toronto added his second score, Dreux Prince found the end zone, and Brennen Grove sealed the game with the final touchdown.

The JV Football team also took care of business on Saturday, earning a strong home win against Bellefontaine.

It was a busy week for the Boys Soccer teams as they celebrated their Senior Night at home.

  • On Monday, London fell to North Union 2–8, with both goals scored by Sydney Powell.

  • Wednesday was Senior Night, celebrating Hannah Howard and Kyleigh Madaj. London fought hard but fell to Ben Logan 1–9, with the goal scored by Lilly Loher.

  • On Saturday, the girls faced Miami Trace under challenging conditions with injuries, limited subs, and hot weather, yet continued to play with determination and heart.

🏐 Volleyball: Big Wins Across All Levels
London Volleyball had a fantastic week both at home and away.

  • On Tuesday, all three teams swept Urbana—Varsity winning in 4 sets, JV in 3, and Freshman in a tight 2–1 victory (22–25, 26–24, 25–21).
