Principal Message

Dear LHS Families,

It's the last week of the first quarter. Grades for this quarter will impact eligibility for the second quarter. An at-risk report email was sent this weekend to alert progress going into the week. The fall season for sports is starting to come to an end. Volleyball, boys and girls soccer have their tournament draws on Sunday, and those brackets will be released. This week is Battle of the Cans and BEAT ALDER week! More details for Battle of the Cans listed below.

  • The food drive will run from 10/6-10/10 during the school day and during the first half of the football game.

  • Counting Items - each individual item counts as one item. Ex: a box of 6 granola bars counts as 6 items.

Football Game

  • Tables will be set up for collection at the game. Any items donated at the game will be counted and added to each school's total from the week.

  • At the start of halftime, the winner will be announced.

Note From Athletics

Reminder: 1st Nine Weeks Grades and Athletic Eligibility

Please remember that 1st nine weeks' grades determine eligibility for 2nd nine weeks athletics.

  • According to OHSAA bylaw 4-4-1 (Scholarship), in order to be eligible, a student must pass a minimum of 5 credits.

  • Physical Education does not count toward the 5-credit requirement.

  • Since this is an OHSAA bylaw, schools cannot amend or adjust this standard to assist with eligibility.

Transportation

At London City Schools, student safety is always our top priority—especially when it comes to bus transportation. Riding the bus is a privilege, and by working together, we can make every trip safe and enjoyable for all students.

Key Bus Safety Rules

To help reinforce safe habits, please remind your child about these important expectations:

  1. Stay Seated While the Bus Is Moving
Children should remain in their seats to avoid injury and to keep the driver’s focus on the road.

  2. Use a Quiet Voice
Talking is allowed, but loud noises can distract the driver. Encourage your child to use a calm, quiet voice.

  3. Keep the Bus Clean
Trash and clutter create safety hazards. Students are expected to respect the bus environment and pick up after themselves.

  4. No Eating, Drinking, or Gum
Food and drinks can cause spills, choking risks, or sticky messes. These items are not permitted during bus rides.

  5. Always Listen to the Bus Driver
The driver’s instructions are for the safety of all passengers. Reinforcing respect for this authority helps ensure a smooth ride.

Sincerely,

Stay In the Game

Each day in the classroom brings new opportunities for growth and discovery. Whether excused or unexcused, absences add up—and every missed day means your child misses out on valuable lessons, hands-on activities, and engaging interactions with teachers and peers. Consistent attendance ensures they don’t fall behind and can make the most of every learning opportunity. Take time to review your student’s current absences and set goals to miss no more than one day each month.

Safety

Your safety comes first!

Whether you’re walking, in the parking lot, or crossing the street—stay alert and keep your phone put away. Distracted walking and driving cause accidents that can be prevented.

Students: Keep phones away while walking, especially near buses and crosswalks. Stay focused on your surroundings.
Drivers: Eyes on the road during arrival and dismissal. No text is worth a life.
Pedestrians: Look both ways, make eye contact with drivers, and never assume they see you.

Together, we can keep everyone safe. Phones down, eyes up!

Nurse news

Hopefully, your family is beginning to settle into a regular school schedule, and your child(ren) are adjusting well to the routines of a new school year. With homework, practices, games, and other after-school activities, establishing consistent routines is so important for student success. Healthy meals and a good night’s sleep also help set your child on the right path to be their best self and have a successful year.

Reminder: Please send an extra set of clothing with your student to keep in their locker. This helps prevent interruptions to your day if an accident, spill, or other mishap occurs. Having clothing on hand also minimizes the time your student is out of the classroom.

Sports Recap

Week in Review (Sept. 22–27)

It was a busy week across London High School athletics, with volleyball surging, football dominating, and cross country shining on senior night. Here’s how each team fared:

Girls’ Soccer: Battling Through Tough Stretch
The girls’ soccer team faced back-to-back road challenges. On Monday, they traveled to Tecumseh, where heavy rain added to the difficulty in a 5–0 loss. Wednesday brought another tough opponent in Graham, with the Raiders falling 5–0 despite strong effort on both ends of the field.

Boys’ Soccer: Finding Bright Spots in the Rain
The varsity boys’ team opened the week at Tecumseh, putting goals on the board in a rainy 7–3 defeat. Connor Sines scored once, while Brice Tidrick added two. Later in the week, London fell 3–0 to Graham. The JV boys’ squad also took on Tecumseh at home but came up short despite solid teamwork.

Volleyball: Red-Hot Raiders Sweep the Week
London volleyball had an outstanding week. On Tuesday, the varsity team beat Ben Logan in three sets, shaking off a tight opener to take control. The JV team swept in two sets, while the freshmen battled to a three-set victory. Thursday at home, varsity stayed perfect on the week, sweeping Tecumseh in straight sets.

Girls’ Tennis: Weather Gets in the Way
The tennis team had a tough outing Tuesday at Marysville, falling despite spirited play. Their Thursday matchup at Watterson was washed out due to rain.

Boys’ Golf: Stormed Out
The golf team’s home match against Miami Trace on Monday was canceled due to poor weather.

Girls’ Golf: Preparing for Sectionals
The girls’ golf team did not compete this week, using the time to rest and prepare for their upcoming sectional tournament.

Varsity Football: Dominance in Urbana
Friday night was all London football. The Raiders remained undefeated at 6–0 with a 47–0 rout of Urbana. Bryson Toronto led the charge with five rushing touchdowns. Tim Leach added a safety, Brody Neal returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown, and Eli Noble chipped in a field goal.

JV Football: Home Win to Close the Week
On Saturday, the JV football team defended their home field with a strong win over Unioto.

Cross Country: Strong Showing on Senior Night
Hosting their home invitational Saturday, London cross country delivered impressive results. The boys’ team finished 4th of 12 schools, while the girls placed 4th of 7. Senior night honored LHS seniors Bailey Colestock, Wyatt Adam-Jette, Matthew Dwyer, Cameron Carn, Latrell Jackson, and Myles Kramer.

  • Boys’ Highlights: Cameron Carn claimed first overall out of 154 runners with a blazing time of 15:56. Anthony Shoaf followed with a strong 15th-place finish at 17:08.

  • Girls’ Highlights: Colestock set a personal record (20:44) to place 15th of 90, while Ashley Nolan came in 20th at 21:47.
