Transportation

Student safety is our highest priority. As colder weather approaches, we want to remind families and students of an important transportation safety guideline: blankets are not permitted on school buses.

While we understand the desire to stay warm during morning and afternoon routes, blankets can create several safety concerns, including:

-Tripping or entanglement hazards when entering, exiting, or moving on the bus
-Increased risk during emergency evacuations, when every second counts
-Difficulty for drivers to clearly see students and ensure safe behavior

To help keep all riders safe, we ask that students dress warmly in coats, hats, and gloves instead of bringing blankets.

Our drivers and staff are committed to maintaining a safe environment on every route, and we appreciate your partnership in following transportation safety guidelines. If you have questions about this expectation, please contact the Transportation Department.

Thank you for helping us keep our buses safe for all students.

Sincerely,
London City Schools Transportation Department

Attendance matters for every student in London City Schools because every minute of learning counts. Excused and unexcused absences both add up, and time away from school quickly impacts learning. Students who attend regularly are 6.7 times more likely to read on grade level by third grade and 9 times more likely to graduate high school on time. Let’s work together to make sure our students are here, engaged, and ready to succeed.

Safety

Safety is our priority! When driving near the school, please be mindful of school zone speed limits and reduce your speed during designated hours. Watch for crossing students, buses, and pedestrians. Your caution helps protect everyone and ensures a safer environment around the school. Let's work together to keep our school zones safe!

Nurse news

As we move into the colder months, we want to remind families of a few important health and wellness tips to help keep students comfortable and prepared throughout the school day. With temperatures dropping, please be sure your child comes to school dressed for the weather. Warm jackets, hats, and gloves are essential for both morning bus stops and outdoor recess. Students go outside as long as conditions are safe, and having appropriate cold-weather clothing helps them stay warm, healthy, and able to enjoy their time outdoors.

We also encourage families to send a complete change of clothing in their child’s backpack. Even older students experience unexpected spills, messy lunches, and occasional wipeouts at recess. Having an extra outfit available at school allows students to return to learning quickly without requiring parents to interrupt their day to bring in clothing.

There are many illnesses circulating right now, and we appreciate families continuing to monitor their child’s health. If you have any questions about whether your student should attend school or need guidance on symptoms, please reach out to the building nurse. Thank you for your help in keeping our school community healthy, warm, and ready to learn this winter season.

London Athletics Weekly Recap - January 12–17

Created by: Brylee Huff and Jacey Peters

A busy and successful week for London athletics featured strong performances in the pool, dominant basketball victories, and multiple wins and placements on the wrestling mats.

🔴⚪ Alumni Spotlight:  Isaiah Jones
London’s own Isaiah “Bones” Jones starred for the Indiana Hoosiers on Monday night as they beat the Miami Hurricanes 27 - 21 to win the College Football National Championship! The junior linebacker did it all for the Hoosiers in the title game as he contributed 2 solo tackles, 1 deflected pass, 1 punt return, and 1 fumble recovery for a touchdown! This story is even more incredible, as Isaiah and his teammates helped deliver Indiana University’s first-ever football national championship. Congratulations to Isaiah Jones and the entire Jones family!

🏊 Swimming
London Swimming had an excellent week at two meets. At Marysville, the Red Raiders placed 2nd overall, led by Griffin Lotton, who finished 2nd in both the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Gabe Scholl added a 3rd-place finish in the 200 IM and 5th in the 100 backstroke, while Caelan Mars placed 3rd in the 500 freestyle. James Thompson recorded top-ten finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Grace Lotton finished 6th in both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly on the girls' side. Later in the week, at a highly competitive 70-team meet in Canton, Griffin Lotton earned a 9th-place finish in the 500 freestyle.

🏀 Girls Basketball
London Girls Basketball put together a dominant week with three convincing wins. The Red Raiders opened with a 69–42 home victory over Bloom-Carroll, led by Addison Lambert’s 18 points, while Madilyn Adkins recorded a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double. London followed with a 68–15 road win at Ben Logan, featuring balanced scoring led by Adkins and Katelyn Duvall with 10 points each. The week concluded with a 57–24 win at Bellefontaine, where Lambert scored 15 points, and London’s defense shone behind Mya Edley’s all-around effort and Adkins’ four blocks.

🏀 Boys Basketball
London Boys Basketball picked up a quality home win on January 16, defeating Urbana 67–59. JJ Calloway led all scorers with 24 points, knocking down four three-pointers while adding rebounds, steals, and blocks. Colin Nickell contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Maddox Sexton and Luke Johnson helped control the game with efficient guard play.

🤼 Wrestling
London Wrestling enjoyed success on both the boys' and girls' sides. The girls' team earned a home win over Northwestern and later placed 10th out of 47 teams at Mechanicsburg, led by Lorrain Durham’s 4th-place and Shayla Lowe’s 5th-place finishes. The boys' team secured dominant home victories over Northwestern and Kenton Ridge, then placed 11th out of 19 teams at Miami Trace, with Tavon Huff, Bryce Tinney, and Damian Ward all earning individual placements.

🎳 Bowling
London Bowling split results during the week, falling on the road to Alder before bouncing back at home with a 2036–1621 victory over Tecumseh, showing great improvement and resilience.
