Principal Message

For underclassmen, this week we start to plan for the 2025-2026 school year. You will find the course guide available for scheduling classes. Counselors will be meeting with students this week to start planning for requests. Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up. Please see the image below to schedule your time slot. Attendance matters. Employers, colleges, and military will want to know about your attendance and that you are making a significant effort towards your future self. For our seniors, this is your last semester; make it count. Start planning to make sure you have done all of the necessary things to be able to walk in at Graduation in May.

Cell Phone policy

Reminder to students and families. Cell phones are to be out of sight when students are in hallways and classrooms. This includes airpods. Students will have access to their devices during their lunch.

Driver's Education

Schwartz Driving School has opened a location in London. It is located at 167 West High Street. They have also provided vouchers to the school which gives students FREE classroom instruction. The driver's training is at a reduced rate through the voucher. These vouchers can be picked up from Mr. Rismiller. Families will need to call Schwartz Driving School at 614-882-4235 to enroll.

Attendance

Attendance holds great significance for each student within London City Schools. Every moment of learning is valuable. Regular school attendance makes students 6.7 times more likely to read on grade level by third grade and 9 times more likely to graduate high school on time. Let's ensure our students are present and prepared for success.

Winter Transportation Safety Update

As winter weather approaches, London City Schools reminds families to prioritize safety when traveling to and from school. Snow, ice, and reduced visibility can make roads more hazardous, so please allow extra time for travel and remind students to stay alert when boarding or exiting buses.

To ensure smooth and timely transportation, it’s important that students are ready and waiting at their designated bus stops when the bus arrives. Students should not remain indoors as this can delay the route and disrupt schedules for others. Bus drivers will take extra precautions to ensure everyone arrives safely, and families are encouraged to dress children warmly for potential delays.

If weather conditions impact school schedules, updates will be communicated via our website, social media, and local news outlets.

Together, we can keep our students safe and on schedule this winter!

Healthcare

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we enter the colder months, I’d like to remind everyone of a few essentials to help keep our students comfortable, safe, and prepared for any unexpected situations.

1. Change of Clothes for Elementary Students: For our younger students, please consider sending a spare set of clothes in their backpacks. Accidents, spills, or minor mishaps can happen at any time, and having a change of clothes ready can make their day much easier.

2. Weather-Appropriate Outerwear: As temperatures drop, please send students with warm coats, hats, and gloves to ensure they stay cozy during recess and other outdoor activities. Layers are also a good idea, as they allow students to adjust to indoor and outdoor temperatures more comfortably.

3. Handwashing: With cold and flu season here, please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently, especially before meals and after recess. Keeping hands clean is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs and keep everyone healthy!

Thank you for helping us ensure all students are prepared for a healthy and happy November

Many young adults begin vaping as a way to cope with anxiety and stress. However, vaping can actually worsen mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Along with these mental health risks, vaping also has several harmful physical health effects. Talk to your student about the importance of avoiding vaping and how making healthy choices now can help protect both their mental and physical well-being.

London FFA Competes in Job Interview

The London FFA competed in the Job Interview Contest.  The members that competed were Freshman Colton Burns, Sophomore Cooper Hudson Love, Junior Hailey Ballah, and Senior Evan Moran.  They all competed in the Sub-District Contest on October 30, 2024 at West Liberty-Salem High School and we had a great turn out with Evan and Cooper placing 1st in their divisions while Hailey placed 4th and Colton placed 6th.  Since Evan and Cooper got top 3, they got to move on to the District competition held on November 6, 2024 at Ridgemont High School.  The results of that competition were good with Evan placing 2nd and Cooper placing 1st in their divisions.  Only the person placing 1st moves on which meant Cooper got to move on to the State competition.  It was held on November 23, 2024 in a zoom meeting format where you had to do everything online and Cooper placed 9th. Congrats to all!

London FFA Helpd with Thanksgiving Help House

The London FFA gives many hours of Community Service to the HELP House in London. Every FFA member is required to participate in giving volunteer hours at the HELP House.  We completed the tasks at hand from November 20th-23rd for multiple hours a day for Thanksgiving.  We would help organize toys, food, and much more so that it's easy for the people that come.  There is also a drive through style where we hand out those goods to the people that shop.
