Principal Message

Dear High School Student Families,

The end of 2024 is coming quickly. This is exam week. Students must participate in taking their exams as grades are critical at this time of year. Passing grades assist students with their GPA, earning semester credit, and even being eligible for third-quarter athletics.

Be aware our bell schedule is different for days of exams. The exam schedule is posted with the exam image under the events section. Click the image to see more information.

Morning drop off is looking better each morning. Thank you to all who have a role in this. Students that are driving and parking at the school are expected to have a parking pass. These are available for $5 in the main office. This assists us with knowing what vehicles are supposed to be at the school during school hours.

School fees are listed on the students' report cards. Some of these fees have accumulated since elementary school or include pay-to-participate. These can be paid online through PaySchools (there is a convenience fee) or checks can be sent to London High School. (These are printed on the grade cards that are mailed home and viewable by selecting "View Paper Report Card.") The amount posted is the accumulated amount from the last time fees have been paid.

Go Red Raiders!

-Ryan Rismiller

Cell Phone policy

Reminder to students and families. Cell phones are to be out of sight when students are in hallways and classrooms. This includes airpods. Students will have access to their devices during their lunch.

Driver's Education

Schwartz Driving School has opened a location in London. It is located at 167 West High Street. They have also provided vouchers to the school which gives students FREE classroom instruction. The driver's training is at a reduced rate through the voucher. These vouchers can be picked up from Mr. Rismiller. Families will need to call Schwartz Driving School at 614-882-4235 to enroll.

Attendance

At London City Schools, we know that consistent attendance is crucial for student success. Even a few missed days each month can affect learning and development. It's concerning that 30% of Ohio students miss nearly 20 days of school each year. Research indicates that missing just two days a month can put students behind in foundational learning and social skills. Let's collaborate to ensure our students are present and thriving every day.

Winter Transportation Safety Update

As winter weather approaches, London City Schools reminds families to prioritize safety when traveling to and from school. Snow, ice, and reduced visibility can make roads more hazardous, so please allow extra time for travel and remind students to stay alert when boarding or exiting buses.

To ensure smooth and timely transportation, it’s important that students are ready and waiting at their designated bus stops when the bus arrives. Students should not remain indoors as this can delay the route and disrupt schedules for others. Bus drivers will take extra precautions to ensure everyone arrives safely, and families are encouraged to dress children warmly for potential delays.

If weather conditions impact school schedules, updates will be communicated via our website, social media, and local news outlets.

Together, we can keep our students safe and on schedule this winter!

Food Service

Children need healthy meals to thrive and succeed in school. London City Schools is proud to offer nutritious meals to all students each school day. Breakfast is available for $1.75 at London Elementary School (LES) and $2.00 at London Middle School (LMS) and London High School (LHS). Lunch is $3.00 at LES and $3.50 at LMS and LHS.

Your child may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on your household's income. The reduced prices are $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch. To see if your family qualifies, please complete the 2024-2025 Free and Reduced Meal Application included in this packet.

For more information, you can visit our food service page or contact Kari Brickman at (740) 852-5700 ext. 3025 or by email at kari.brickman@london.k12.oh.us You can also reach her by mail at 380 Elm St, London, OH 43140.

Healthcare

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we enter the colder months, I’d like to remind everyone of a few essentials to help keep our students comfortable, safe, and prepared for any unexpected situations.

1. Change of Clothes for Elementary Students: For our younger students, please consider sending a spare set of clothes in their backpacks. Accidents, spills, or minor mishaps can happen at any time, and having a change of clothes ready can make their day much easier.

2. Weather-Appropriate Outerwear: As temperatures drop, please send students with warm coats, hats, and gloves to ensure they stay cozy during recess and other outdoor activities. Layers are also a good idea, as they allow students to adjust to indoor and outdoor temperatures more comfortably.

3. Handwashing: With cold and flu season here, please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently, especially before meals and after recess. Keeping hands clean is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs and keep everyone healthy!

Thank you for helping us ensure all students are prepared for a healthy and happy November

Conflict is a natural part of growing up, and you can help your child handle it constructively. Encourage them to stay calm, listen to others’ perspectives, and work together to find solutions. Model respectful conflict resolution and remind them to seek help from a trusted adult if needed. With your support, students can develop positive relationship skills and resilience.
