Good afternoon families!

It is the end of the month. Student requests will be entered the week of February 24. Students need to come with their request forms to London Possible on their grade level request date.

Employers, colleges, and military will want to know about your attendance and that you are making a significant effort towards your future self. For our seniors, this is your last semester; make it count. Start planning to make sure you have done all of the necessary things to be able to walk in at Graduation in May.

London High School continues to make strong strives to support students and staff. During the course of the year, London High School with Academic Coaching through Roy Greenlee, we have been able to improve our support of staff. More inclusive discussions have been had in the department hallways and most new staff members are working through RESA with a mentor from their department.

The building has been able to increase technology by being able to provide classroom sets of TI-84 and TI-30 calculators in the math department. This also has assisted the science department with providing calculators. Field trips have also occurred to be able to create real world experiences for students.

Areas London High School wants to continue to build the use of London Possible and building the Computer Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing pathways. London Possible has started to become a time to be able to provide intervention and counseling. For Computer Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing, the building needs to connect with possible partnerships to support credentialing and career development.

Madison County Public Health is running a food drive to support WIC participants and local food pantries during the month of February for National Nutrition Month. They will be collecting food items and gently used cooking supplies. We are listed as a drop off location, but this will only be for LCS students and their families to drop off items during school hours. Community members should be dropping off items at other locations. Public health will be dropping off a donation box and flyer to each building sometime this week and they will be picked up in March. I will let you know if this changes. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this event at any time.

Reminder to students and families. Cell phones are to be out of sight when students are in hallways and classrooms. This includes airpods. Students will have access to their devices during their lunch.

Schwartz Driving School has opened a location in London. It is located at 167 West High Street. They have also provided vouchers to the school which gives students FREE classroom instruction. The driver's training is at a reduced rate through the voucher. These vouchers can be picked up from Mr. Rismiller. Families will need to call Schwartz Driving School at 614-882-4235 to enroll.

Help your child understand that school is their very first job! Make great school attendance a priority. Talk to your child about the importance of attending every class daily and how it benefits their learning. When students miss too much school, they may not be prepared for Kindergarten, learning to read by third grade, passing courses in middle school, and eventually graduating from high school. Let's work together to ensure every student is present and ready to succeed.

Winter Transportation Safety Update

As winter weather approaches, London City Schools reminds families to prioritize safety when traveling to and from school. Snow, ice, and reduced visibility can make roads more hazardous, so please allow extra time for travel and remind students to stay alert when boarding or exiting buses.

To ensure smooth and timely transportation, it’s important that students are ready and waiting at their designated bus stops when the bus arrives. Students should not remain indoors as this can delay the route and disrupt schedules for others. Bus drivers will take extra precautions to ensure everyone arrives safely, and families are encouraged to dress children warmly for potential delays.

If weather conditions impact school schedules, updates will be communicated via our website, social media, and local news outlets.

Children need healthy meals to thrive and succeed in school. London City Schools is proud to offer nutritious meals to all students each school day. Breakfast is available for $1.75 at London Elementary School (LES) and $2.00 at London Middle School (LMS) and London High School (LHS). Lunch is $3.00 at LES and $3.50 at LMS and LHS.

Your child may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on your household's income. The reduced prices are $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch. To see if your family qualifies, please complete the 2024-2025 Free and Reduced Meal Application included in this packet.

Important Reminders About When to Keep Your Child Home

To help maintain the health and safety of all students and staff, please review the following guidelines:

• Fever: If your child has a fever today, they should not attend school tomorrow.

• Medication for Fever: If you are giving your child Tylenol or Motrin for a fever today or to help them "make it through the day," please keep them home.

• Diarrhea or Vomiting: If your child experiences diarrhea or vomiting today, they should stay home tomorrow.

With flu season in full swing, we are seeing many children with symptoms such as those mentioned above. To prevent the spread of illness, we kindly ask you to keep your child at home if they are unwell.

If you are unsure whether your child should attend school, feel free to contact the clinic at the school they attend for guidance.

Additional Important Reminders:

• Contact Information: If your contact information has changed, please update it with the school building(s) your child attends to ensure we can reach you in case of an emergency.

• Cold Weather Preparedness: As temperatures drop, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. This includes a warm coat, hat, and gloves.

We kindly ask that you avoid driving or parking on the grass when dropping off or picking up students. With the recent wet weather, vehicles are causing damage to the school grounds, creating muddy areas and ruts that can be difficult to repair. Help us keep our campus safe and looking great by sticking to the designated parking and drop-off areas. We appreciate your cooperation and support!
