Principal Message

Spring Break

Dear High School Student Families,

It is Spring Break. When we return next week, we will be starting the fourth quarter. Spring sports are in full swing!

Drivers must adhere to posted school zone speed limits and exercise heightened awareness, particularly in the vicinity of crosswalks. Students are reminded to activate the crosswalk button, which functions similarly to a cell phone and responds to touch by a bare hand, and to exercise caution by checking for oncoming traffic before entering the crosswalk.

Looking forward to a great week!

Go Red Raiders!

-Ryan Rismiller

A NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF TEACHER AND LEARNING

To Junior students who missed the ACT

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The London City Schools offered the ACT test for Juniors on February 27, 2024. Your student was not in attendance and will need to participate in the required ACT make-up. This will be held on March 26, 2024 at 7:20am. Students will need to report to the College and Career Readiness Center at the High School. This is a graduation requirement for all students to complete. If your student attends Tolles, the student will be excused from Tolles to complete this test.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Kylie Pritchard at 740/852-570 ext. 2104 or email at kylie.pritchard@london.k12.oh.us.

Sincerely,

Kylie Pritchard
Director of Teaching & Learning

ATTENDANCE MATTERS: LCS PARTNERS WITH STAY IN THE GAME NETWORK TO HELP ADDRESS CHRONIC STUDENT ABSENCES

Remember, being on time and attending the entire day matters. It all adds to learning time – and being with friends, involved in activities, and receiving other support to help them thrive – that sets them up for future success. Consistent attendance promotes better time management skills and sets a positive example for punctuality and commitment in various aspects of life.

London City Schools to Cancel Classes on Monday, April 8th

After ongoing consultation with the Madison County Emergency Management Agency, the London City School District is canceling classes for all schools on Monday, April 8th, 2024 due to the Solar Eclipse. Despite the district being at the southern edge of totality, the area is expected to be heavily impacted by solar tourism on this day.

The district is planning to provide students and families with resources to make this day meaningful. Lessons on the eclipse, frequently asked questions and general information can also be found on the Ohio Department of Education’s 2024 Solar Eclipse webpage.

Nurse

A quick update from Nurse:

With cold and flu season here, please reach out if you have any questions about when to keep your child home from school. If your child is one who gets a flu shot, and hasn't gotten theirs yet, it's not too late. Reach out to your child's pediatrician and the Health Department offers them as well.

As a reminder, if your child has one of the following, they should stay home.
Fever
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Cough (that is persistent or disruptive to your child's learning or the learning of others)
Respiratory issues

Of course to help and try to keep all of the mentioned above at bay, good and frequent hand washing is so important. Please remind your child of this and our amazing teachers and staff will be helping to reinforce good handwashing as well.

For our elementary students, please make sure they have a warm coat along with a hat and gloves (if needed) as there will be outdoor recess as long as weather allows. AND, please make sure your child has an extra set of clothing in case of bathroom accidents, spills or wipeouts on the playground. If your child has an extra set of clothing, it will save you a trip to the school.

Transportation

Update from Transportation

As we navigate our daily routines, it's essential to remember the value of kindness in all our interactions, including while riding the school bus. We'd like to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of practicing good manners and spreading positivity during our bus journeys.

**Be Respectful**
Respect is the cornerstone of a positive bus ride. Treat your fellow passengers, the bus driver, and any supervising adults with kindness and consideration. Use polite language and avoid any behavior that may disrupt the peace and safety of the bus environment.
**Listen to the Bus Driver**
Our bus drivers work tirelessly to ensure our students arrive safely to and from school. Please listen attentively to their instructions and follow their guidelines for boarding, seating, and disembarking the bus. Your cooperation helps maintain order and safety for everyone on board.
 Help Others
If you see someone in need of assistance, lend a helping hand. Whether it's offering a seat to someone carrying heavy bags or helping a younger student find their way, small acts of kindness can go a long way in creating a supportive and caring bus environment.
**Keep it Clean**
Respect the bus and keep it clean and tidy. Dispose of trash properly, avoid eating, and refrain from damaging or vandalizing the bus interior. By taking care of our shared space, we show respect for ourselves and our peers.
**Misconduct**
Misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated on the school bus. If you witness or experience any form of inappropriate behavior, please speak up and report it to a responsible adult or school authority immediately. Together, we can create a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

Let's make every bus ride a positive and enjoyable experience for all passengers. Thank you for your cooperation in upholding these principles of kindness and respect.

Jason

The London City School District is again partnering with JASON Learning to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for one London student and one London teacher this school year. Named after the mythical Greek explorers, the Argonaut program is an opportunity for one London Middle School or one London High School student to work with students and scientists from across the country to learn more about Design Thinking, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. JASON Learning will officially conduct two expeditions in 2024, and the pre-application form is now open! 2024 expeditions have been selected and the choices are….

  •  Sky Islands BioQuest: Exploring Arizona's Bug Diversity Amid Climate Change near Tucson AZ, June 17-22, 2024

  • Houston: Design Thinking, Innovation, & Entrepreneurship. Houston TX, July 15-19, 2024

JASON will match the future Argonauts to the most suitable expedition.

The experience and trip are free to the chosen student and provided as part of the district’s partnership with Jason Learning. For more information about 2024’s expeditions, click here.

The Argonaut Program is for teachers and middle and high-school-age students. Students must be 13-17 years old at the time of the expedition. Students interested in earning this opportunity must complete an application no later than Friday, March 15. The application includes a quick pre-registration, which is due March 1, and then a more lengthy application that includes the submittal of a video explaining their interest by March 15. Students interested are encouraged to get started on the application immediately! Any student or teacher interested in applying should also contact Mrs. Pritchard (kylie.pritchard@london.k12.oh.us) who will provide small group and individual help sessions for students as they complete their applications and can answer any additional questions.

Good luck Raiders, make us proud!

Enhancements to Safer Ohio School tip line include new options for reporting school safety concerns

In addition to calling and texting the state's free Safer Ohio School Tip Line (1-844-SAFEROH), recent changes now enable Ohioans to report school safety information using a new smartphone app and online web form to quickly report concerns.
