Good afternoon families!

Thank you to all for assisting with getting students to their testing sessions this past week. We have three more test dates for the End of Course Tests. Scores on these assessments can impact graduation. Bell schedules for the next three test dates are listed in this update. April 23, 24, and 29 are the next three test dates. An initial email was sent during Spring Break. An updated email was sent Friday for the April 23 and 24 test dates. If students have Algebra 1, Geometry, American History, or Government on their schedule, they will be testing. Students who are testing are expected to be at school at the normal start time and report to their testing room. Student Chromebooks must be charged. Updated information regarding the Biology Test will be sent this week. Students who are not testing will follow the bell schedules listed below. Students' testing will follow this schedule after they complete their test. School transportation will only run at the regular time. Tolles students not testing will follow their normal schedule.

Notice to all families (especially Senior families,) please check the printed version of the last report cards. School fees are listed. Some fees have been accumulating since elementary school. To get to this go to your ProgressBook page, click Report Card (this was the left side of my computer screen), and click view paper report card (this was on the top of my computer screen.)

Information about prom and the purchasing of Prom tickets has been shared. There is also one last week to complete the Foundation Scholarship.

Notice to all high school drivers, beware of your surroundings, watch for pedestrians, take your time in school zones, and if assisting with dropping off siblings- watch for children getting in and out of cars.

Employers, colleges, and military will want to know about your attendance and that you are making a significant effort towards your future self. For our seniors, this is your last semester; make it count. Start planning to make sure you have done all of the necessary things to be able to walk in at Graduation in May.

Reminder to students and families. Cell phones are to be out of sight when students are in hallways and classrooms. This includes airpods. Students will have access to their devices during their lunch.

Schwartz Driving School has opened a location in London. It is located at 167 West High Street. They have also provided vouchers to the school which gives students FREE classroom instruction. The driver's training is at a reduced rate through the voucher. These vouchers can be picked up from Mr. Rismiller. Families will need to call Schwartz Driving School at 614-882-4235 to enroll.

Consistent school attendance is a critical factor. By collaborating, schools, families, and communities can actively encourage and support students to attend school daily, focusing on prevention and early intervention. Chronic absenteeism serves as a key indicator that influences the literacy and workforce outcomes of students. It acts as an early warning sign, indicating the risk of challenges such as not reading proficiently by the end of third grade, struggling academically in middle school, and the potential for high school dropout. Research reveals that Ohio students facing chronic absenteeism are 65% less likely to read on grade level by the end of third grade and 89% less likely to graduate on time.

Transportation Department Reminder: Spring Bus Safety Tips 

As the temperatures begin to rise and more students are walking, biking, and playing outside, the Transportation Department would like to remind everyone of a few important bus safety tips to keep all our students safe:

1. Arrive Early: Make sure students arrive at the bus stop 5-10 minutes early and wait in a safe spot—away from traffic and off private property.

2. Stay Visible: With spring sunshine and unpredictable weather, it’s important to wear bright clothing and avoid standing in areas where the bus driver may not see you.

3. Use Caution Around the Bus: Never walk behind the bus. If you must cross the street, always wait for the driver’s signal and cross 10 giant steps in front of the bus so the driver can see you clearly.

4. No Distractions: As windows open for fresh air, please remind students to keep all items, including body parts, inside the bus at all times and to avoid shouting or horseplay.

5. Watch for Wet or Muddy Conditions: Spring often brings rain and slippery surfaces. Remind students to be cautious when getting on or off the bus.

Our top priority is the safety of every student. Thank you for your continued cooperation in helping make our transportation system safe and reliable.

Children need healthy meals to thrive and succeed in school. London City Schools is proud to offer nutritious meals to all students each school day. Breakfast is available for $1.75 at London Elementary School (LES) and $2.00 at London Middle School (LMS) and London High School (LHS). Lunch is $3.00 at LES and $3.50 at LMS and LHS.

Your child may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on your household's income. The reduced prices are $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch. To see if your family qualifies, please complete the 2024-2025 Free and Reduced Meal Application included in this packet.

Spring Safety Tips from the District Nurse 

As the weather warms up, here are a few quick reminders to help keep students healthy and safe:

• Stay Hydrated: Encourage water throughout the day.

• Sun & Bug Safety: Use sunscreen and check for ticks after outdoor play.

• Dress Smart: Wear proper shoes to avoid slips on muddy or wet surfaces.

• Healthy Habits: Keep up with handwashing and stay home if sick.

Children are especially vulnerable to road accidents without proper supervision. To keep them safe, it’s important to teach the following road safety tips:

- Always look right, left, and right again before crossing, and only cross while holding an adult’s or older child’s hand.
- Never run near a road.
- When walking on roads without sidewalks, always face traffic—though it’s best to avoid these roads altogether.
- Understand and follow traffic signs and lights.
- Always exit the car from the curb side.
- Wear a helmet at all times when riding a bike, scooter, or skateboard.

By practicing these habits, we can keep our students safe near roads.
