Principal Message

Dear High School Student Families,

This week is the second of two weeks of state testing. This week is the Algebra 1, Geometry, American History, American Government, and Biology assessments. Students who have missed the ELA 2 assessment or a part of the assessment will be making up their tests this week too. Students who are participating in the test should have received an email from the school. All students scheduled in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, American History, and American Government will be participating and anyone that needs a qualifying score for graduation in their respective test session. Participation in this test is critical and can impact graduation. Students' testing will be at school at our normal start time. Students who are not testing will be following the schedule below.

We will use the following schedule for April 16 (Algebra 1 and Geometry), 17 (American History/American Government), and 18 (Biology.)

  • Testing 7:20-10:30

  • 1st Period 10:35-10:57

  • 4th Period 11:00- 11:30

  • 5th Period 11:33-12:03

  • 6th Period 12:06-12:36

  • 2nd Period 12:39-1:01

  • 3rd Period 1:04-1:26

  • 7th Period 1:29-1:51

  • 8th Period 1:54-2:15

You can practice with your students by accessing the Ohio State Testing Portal. Students will be taking End of Course Tests based on courses they are currently enrolled in or tests they may need to retake. Tests that will be given include English Language Arts 2, Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, American History, and American Government. A score of 700 is needed to receive the status of proficient. 700 is also the score used for the earning of seals.

Student fees are accessible on students' interim reports and grade cards that are accessible from your student's grade card portal. This information is typically found in the top left corner of the grade card.  (These are printed on the grade cards that are mailed home and viewable by selecting "View Paper Report Card.") The amount that is posted is the accumulated amount from the last time fees have been paid.

As we start to warm up, please read through the student handbook with district expectations, this includes the dress code. Students were given reminders as we ended the third quarter and went into Spring Break.

Drivers must adhere to posted school zone speed limits and exercise heightened awareness, particularly in the vicinity of crosswalks. Students are reminded to activate the crosswalk button, which functions similarly to a cell phone and responds to touch by a bare hand, and to exercise caution by checking for oncoming traffic before entering the crosswalk.

We are looking forward to a great week!

Go Red Raiders!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS: LCS PARTNERS WITH STAY IN THE GAME NETWORK TO HELP ADDRESS CHRONIC STUDENT ABSENCES

Help your child understand that school is their very first job!

  • Make great school attendance a priority for your child.

  • Talk to your child about the importance of daily attendance in every class and how it helps his/her learning.

  • When students miss so much school they will not be prepared for Kindergarten, learning to read by the third grade, failing courses in middle school and dropping out of high school.

Nurse

A quick update from Nurse:

Establishing a regular bedtime routine and ensuring children have adequate rest is essential for their physical and mental health. Encouraging calming activities before bedtime, like reading or listening to quiet music, can help children unwind and prepare for sleep. A well-rested child is more likely to exhibit positive behaviors, such as attentiveness, cooperation, and academic success, while a tired child may struggle with concentration, exhibit irritability, and experience difficulties in controlling their emotions and behaviors. Prioritizing sufficient sleep for children not only enhances their academic performance but also contributes to their overall health and well-being, reducing the likelihood of illness and promoting a positive outlook toward daily activities and play.

Transportation

Update from Transportation

School Bus Safety Guidelines:

Motorists around school buses need to know the signals and the laws that concern school buses to help keep children safe:

-Do not pass a school bus that has red alternating flashing lights on. This is the signal that the bus is stopped to load or unload children. Traffic should not move until the bus resumes motion or the driver signals traffic to proceed.
- When a bus has alternating flashing amber (yellow) lights on, it is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Be ready to stop and watch for children in the roadway.

Parental Involvement in School Bus Safety:

Parents play a crucial role in helping keep children safe on the school bus. Here are some ways in which parents can help:

- Review the safety rules with children. Help them to understand why each rule is important.
- Dress children in light-colored clothing or jackets on dark mornings.
- Help children to be ready at the stop before their bus arrives.
- Take turns supervising bus stops for smaller children.

Carnival
Madison County Job and Family are on the search for volunteers for the Child Abuse Carnival on April 26th. They need 48 volunteers for our games. They divide the games into 2 shifts; shift 1 from 4:45pm-6:30pm and shift 2 from 6:15pm-8:00pm. If someone wants to work both shifts, they are thankful for that. They will offer to move them to a different game if they wish. They will also provide free food so the volunteers will be able to have a meal while at our carnival.
