Principal Message

Dear High School Student Families,

We hope you and your students are able to take advantage of the extended weekend. Teachers have started to enter grades for their courses. Please check your access to your Parent and Student portals to ProgressBook. We are one week from interims. Activities are in full swing, we hope that you can stop out to an activity to support the teams. Classes of 2025 and 2027 will be able to place in person orders on Tuesday this week for Graduation and Class Rings. Any students who drive and park their vehicles at the school are expected to have a parking pass. Forms are available in the office, parking passes are $5. Your students have worked well through the updated cell phone expectations. Students have been taking redirection.

Thank you to all who are dropping their students off at the fire lane, it helps with traffic flow. Here are a few reminders as we start back up:

  • School doors open at 7:00.

  • Students will be released to their first period at 7:10.

  • Class starts at 7:20. Students arriving at their classroom after 7:20 need to report to the office for a late pass.

  • Students are expected to remove their hats, hoods, AirPods, or other headphone device, and put phones away as they enter the building.

  • If driving students and dropping them off, please use the loop and drop off students on the fire lane side for building entry. Please help us keep from having a line that backs up onto Elm.

  • Students who are driving are expected to be licensed and use the student parking spots. Information for parking passes is now available in the office.

School fees are listed on the students' report cards. Some of these fees have accumulated since elementary school or include pay-to-participate. These can be paid online through PaySchools (there is a convenience fee) or checks can be sent to London High School. (These are printed on the grade cards that are mailed home and viewable by selecting "View Paper Report Card.") The amount posted is the accumulated amount from the last time fees have been paid.

Go Red Raiders!

Driver's Education

Schwartz Driving School has opened a location in London. It is located at 167 West High Street. They have also provided vouchers to the school which gives students FREE classroom instruction. The driver's training is at a reduced rate through the voucher. These vouchers can be picked up from Mr. Rismiller. Families will need to call Schwartz Driving School at 614-882-4235 to enroll.

Pay Schools
Attendance

London City Schools places attendance as a top priority, recognizing that absences result in missed learning opportunities that cannot be reclaimed. We all win when our students stay in the game and succeed. Ohio will have a stronger talent pool to drive our economy, families can realize the goals they have for their children, and students will be prepared for the future.

Transportation News

The Transportation Department is thrilled to kick off another school year with all of you. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that every student arrives at school safely, on time, and ready to learn each day. We understand that transportation is a crucial part of the school experience, and we're here to support you with any questions or concerns you might have. Whether it’s your first day or you’re returning for another great year, we’re committed to providing a smooth and reliable ride.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Transportation Office at 740-852-5705 ext. 5010. Denise Jordan will be happy to assist you. Let’s work together to make this school year the best one yet—on and off the bus! Safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you on the road!

Drivers Wanted
Food Service

The London City School District participates in the National School Lunch Program, ensuring that the food and beverages served meet state and federal guidelines based on USDA Dietary and Smart Snack standards. Families are encouraged to apply for meal benefits through the Free/Reduced Lunch Application, which also qualifies students for free breakfast and potentially waives school fees. Each student receives a lunch account and PIN to use for meals, and parents can add money to their child’s account by sending money to school or using PaySchools Central online.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications must be submitted annually, as the student's status expires 30 days after the school year begins unless a new application is received. Families who receive a Letter of Direct Certification do not need to reapply but should verify that all household children are listed. Breakfast is served daily unless there is a 2-hour delay, in which case it will not be provided.

For students with special dietary needs, schools will accommodate based on a written Medical Statement from a licensed physician. Pricing for meals varies by school level, with breakfast costing $1.75 at LES and $2.00 at LMS and LHS, and lunch priced at $3.00 at LES and $3.50 at LMS and LHS. Reduced prices are $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch, with extra milk available for $.50. For more details, visit the Food Service page.

Welcome Back! Important Health Information for the Upcoming School Year

As we begin the new school year, here are some key health reminders:

Vision and Hearing Screenings:
Throughout the school year, students in grades K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 will undergo vision and hearing screenings. If your child is already under the care of a specialist or you prefer they not be tested, please inform their teacher (k-5) or school nurse. Additional details can be found in the attached information.

Immunization Records:
For students in Kindergarten, 7th, and 12th grades, it is crucial that you submit your child's immunization record to their school immediately to ensure they are not excluded from attending.

- Kindergarteners must have had a physical within the past year, and you need to submit the paperwork along with an updated immunization record or exemption form.
- 7th graders need an updated immunization record, including meningococcal and Tdap vaccines unless you have an exemption.
- 12th graders are required to have an updated immunization record that includes the meningococcal vaccine, unless exempted.

Extra Clothing for Elementary Students:
For our younger students, please send an extra set of clothing to be kept in their lockers in case of accidents, spills, or playground mishaps. This can help prevent interruptions during your day if a change of clothing is needed.

Medical Needs:
If your child has any medical conditions or needs, please contact the school's health staff to ensure they are aware of all necessary information.

For any questions or concerns, please reach out to our health team:

- Elizabeth Kennell, District RN: 740-852-5700 ext. 1067
- Monica Surrell, LPN (LMS): ext. 3073
- Baylee Semler, Nurse Aide (LHS): ext. 4055

Langham

Welcome back to school! I’m Officer Langham, the district’s School Resource Officer. This week marks the first full week back, and we’re off to a great start. As we continue working towards an outstanding school year, I want to take a moment to remind families and student drivers about some important safety guidelines to ensure a secure learning environment for everyone.

First, please remember to slow down to 20 miles per hour in the school zone. This speed limit is strictly enforced before and after school hours, as many students are walking to and from school during these times. If you see someone approaching the crosswalk on Elm Street, please slow down and prepare to stop. State law requires that you stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk, and this rule is also strictly enforced. Students who walk before and after school are encouraged to activate the crosswalk light for added safety.

For those dropping off students, please pull as far forward as possible before letting your child out of the car. This helps prevent traffic from backing up and ensures that students are dropped off within our designated safety zones.

Elementary parents, you’ve likely noticed the cones in front of the gate leading to the drop-off and pick-up area. These cones are there to keep traffic flowing smoothly during peak times. Once the line clears, I will remove them to maintain traffic flow. However, if the cones are not present and there’s a long line, please treat it as if they are there and join the back of the line. So far, this system has been working well, and I appreciate your cooperation.

When you enter the pick-up/drop-off area, please pull all the way forward so other cars can fit in. Also, please DO NOT PASS other cars in the drop-off line, as this poses a significant safety risk. Additionally, I’ve noticed some students standing while their vehicle is moving in the drop-off area—please ensure your child remains seated until the vehicle is fully stopped. If this continues, we will need to address it individually.

As I always tell my kids: safety first! Let’s work together to make this an awesome year. Thank you!

About The Gates Scholarship

The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential.

Selected Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance to earn a bachelor’s degree, that is not already covered by other financial aid and the Student Aid Index, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university. Costs covered include tuition, fees, books, and food and housing, and may include additional personal costs.

TGS also provides Scholars with various online support services designed to help them excel in their degree programs, graduate, and make a successful transition to their chosen careers. These include career services, mentoring, leadership development, wellness, and knowledge building.

*For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required.
