Principal Message

Dear LHS Families,

It is Win and you are in! Friday night, our London Red Raiders Football team got the win in dramatic fashion when scoring the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the game! The team is back in action on Friday night versus Jackson.

Our attendance has taken a big hit this month, as the early part of the flu season. This is a reminder to practice good hygiene by washing hands regularly and getting plenty of sleep. Strong attendance leads to better grades!

There is a Veterans Day Assembly on November 11. The bell schedule is listed below. Please also Save A Date between December 11-13, to come see "A Texas Carol" put on by our students in the Joyce Hildebrand Auditorium.

The counselors will be asking students for information regarding driver's licenses; CPR certifications done for lifeguarding, babysitting or other Red Cross approved; and other certifications they may have received for training at their work place. These items can assist students in showing their readiness and can qualify for the Industry Credential seal.

If you are a parent drop-off, please help the flow of the line by either dropping students off by the curb or at the circle by the tennis courts.

WE ARE DOWN TO THE LAST 60! If you haven't done so, please take a few moments to log into FinalForms and complete or update your student’s information. This process ensures we have accurate emergency contacts, medical details, and activity participation forms on file for the year.

Here’s to a great week!

Transportation

At London City Schools, student safety is always our top priority—especially when it comes to bus transportation. Riding the bus is a privilege, and by working together, we can make every trip safe and enjoyable for all students.

Key Bus Safety Rules

To help reinforce safe habits, please remind your child about these important expectations:

  1. Stay Seated While the Bus Is Moving
Children should remain in their seats to avoid injury and to keep the driver’s focus on the road.

  2. Use a Quiet Voice
Talking is allowed, but loud noises can distract the driver. Encourage your child to use a calm, quiet voice.

  3. Keep the Bus Clean
Trash and clutter create safety hazards. Students are expected to respect the bus environment and pick up after themselves.

  4. No Eating, Drinking, or Gum
Food and drinks can cause spills, choking risks, or sticky messes. These items are not permitted during bus rides.

  5. Always Listen to the Bus Driver
The driver’s instructions are for the safety of all passengers. Reinforcing respect for this authority helps ensure a smooth ride.

Sincerely,

Stay In the Game

Understanding the importance of sleep in your child’s growth, development, academic performance, behavior, mood, and overall health is essential. Proper rest helps children stay focused and ready to learn. It’s important to remember that both excused and unexcused absences add up—missing even one or more days a month can negatively impact a child’s learning, confidence, and long-term success.

To help your child achieve a more peaceful and restorative sleep, consider these recommendations:

-Establish a consistent sleep routine. Encourage your child to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
-Create a calm sleep environment. Remove distractions such as screens, noise, and bright lights from the bedroom.
-Avoid caffeine and sugary drinks, especially in the afternoon and evening.
-Incorporate a bedtime routine, such as reading a set number of books or engaging in another quiet, predictable activity, to help your child transition smoothly to sleep.

With steady routines, restful nights, and regular attendance, your child will be better prepared for school each day—both physically and mentally.

Safety

Cybercriminals often use emails, texts, and social media messages to trick people into giving away information or clicking unsafe links.

-Pause before you click. Don’t open links or attachments from unknown senders.
-Check the source. Look closely at email addresses and URLs—small spelling errors can signal a fake.
-Don’t share personal info. Never send passwords, addresses, or ID numbers through email or messages.
-Report it. If something looks suspicious, forward it to the IT Help Desk or tell a teacher or administrator.

Staying alert online protects you, your accounts, and our school network!

Winter Weather & Health Reminders
As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately. Students are outside for both bus stops and recess, so be sure they have a warm coat, socks, and proper footwear each day.

Medication at School
If your child requires medication during the school day, a licensed prescriber’s order is required—this includes cough drops and topical ointments.

Please remember:

  • Students should not transport medication to school unless it is an inhaler, diabetic supplies, or an EpiPen.

  • All other medications must be brought in by a parent or guardian.

Cold & Flu Season Guidelines
With cold and flu season upon us, please keep your child home if they are experiencing:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • A fever

  • A persistent cough that would be disruptive in class

To help avoid illness, please remind your child to wash their hands frequently.

Thank you for helping us keep our students healthy and safe this winter!
